The visual art of Allison Speer is as widely known and respected as her expressive and commanding voice. Each piece of glass jewelry is handcrafted and designed by Allison at her studio in Nashville, TN. “Every pendant I make has a small bit of red glass that represents the blood of Christ spilled for our sins.” Allison signs each piece and etches a Bible scripture reference on the back of her work. “When the salvation of Jesus changed my heart, it also changed my art. For an artist, any tangible thing available is susceptible to becoming art. I have worked with glass now for many years. My passion is designing with shapes, colors and textures. My new venture into working with silver and other metals is a natural progression for me. My silver crosses communicate a message of my identity. When a Christian wears a cross it is unlike a non-Christian wearing one, for when a Believer wears the cross, the cross also wears them. We identify our status as “forgiven followers.” Working with silver is a repeated process of firing and hammering. Shaping this beautiful, pure metal is a delight to me. I bring it to you, now.
